Some hosts (patients’ mouths) don’t respond well enough to just brushing and flossing. Their body needs something more to disrupt the pathogens causing the inflammation. We will recommend changing your at-home cleanings by using an electric toothbrush as well as a water irrigator like a Waterpik. These tools are much more effective than a manual toothbrush and floss.
One of the main reasons electric toothbrushes are more effective is due to the built-in 2-minute timer. The sonic technology helps to break up, sweep and remove the plaque bacteria. The brush head moves 62,000 times per minute, which a manual cannot.
When Invisalign first came out, it was the standard of care to wear each aligner for two weeks. We would say the average case was around 11-12 months. Now we know more about how the teeth move with these aligners and with ideal compliance, we can actually cut the treatment time in half and only wear each aligner for one week! The key is compliance! You must wear the aligners at all times and only take them out to eat and then brush and floss.
